  • Users whose source water falls within the listed feed water limits.

Good to know details

Counter space

Allow at least 9.5 inches of width and 19 inches of depth, plus clearance for the 17 inch height, ventilation and feed tank access.

Electrical capacity

Confirm a nearby 100 to 120 V, 60 Hz outlet appropriate for the listed 1,500 W rated load and 1,400 W heating load.

Source water limits

Compare a water test with the listed feed water limits for TDS, hardness, chlorine, pH, turbidity, sulfide, iron and manganese.

Daily water volume

One one gallon feed tank produces approximately 0.5 gallon of filtered water and approximately 0.5 gallon of concentrate.

Temperature needs

Confirm that countertop hot, cold, room temperature and hydrogen enriched dispensing matches the household’s actual routine.

Replacement ownership

Confirm access to U1-W replacement filters and comfort with the listed replacement intervals.

Installation Steps

The U1-W is a zero plumbing countertop system, but it still requires suitable placement, electrical service and a source water match.

  1. Place the unit on a stable, level indoor counter with adequate clearance around the 9.5 in W × 17 in H × 19 in D cabinet.
  2. Connect it to a 100 to 120 V, 60 Hz outlet appropriate for the listed electrical load.
  3. Fill the one gallon feed water tank with water that meets the listed inlet water requirements.
  4. Place the tank on the unit and start a filtration cycle.
  5. Select the desired dispensing temperature or hydrogen enriched option from the control panel.
  6. Empty and refill the feed tank as directed in current product instructions.
Water use expectation: A full feed tank produces about one half gallon of filtered water and about one half gallon of concentrate. A typical half gallon filtration cycle takes less than seven minutes.

Maintenance Guide

A countertop RO system trades permanent plumbing for hands on ownership. Expect to refill the tank, dispose of concentrate, monitor the filter indicator and replace treatment components on schedule.

Component Replacement guidance
Sediment + carbon filter Every 6 to 12 months
RO membrane Every 12 to 24 months
Alkaline post filter Every 6 to 12 months
Hydrogen module Every 6 to 12 months

Actual service life varies with water quality and use. Follow the filter status indicator and current product instructions.

  • Use replacement components specified for the U1-W.
  • Keep the feed tank and dispensing area clean according to current product instructions.
  • Monitor source water conditions because changes can affect performance and filter life.
  • Allow access above and behind the unit for refilling, cleaning and component replacement.

Feed water limits matter. Maximum TDS is 800 mg/L, hardness is limited to 25 grains per gallon, chlorine must remain below 4 ppm, pH must remain between 3 and 11, and turbidity must not exceed 5 NTU. Sulfide, iron and manganese must each be below 0.1 mg/L.

Room temperature inlet water should be 68 to 78°F, with an ambient operating range of 40 to 104°F. Use only water of known microbiological quality or water that receives adequate treatment before entering the U1-W.

Five treatment stages

1. Sediment filtration

Captures larger suspended particles before the primary treatment stages.

2. Carbon filtration

Reduces chlorine and helps protect the RO membrane.

3. Reverse osmosis

The membrane reduces total dissolved solids and selected dissolved contaminants.

4. Alkaline post filter

Adds calcium and magnesium after RO treatment to improve taste.

5. Hydrogen module

Produces the system’s hydrogen enriched, negative ORP dispensing option.

Reduction testing: Third party testing reports reductions in total dissolved solids, fluoride, lead, PFOA/PFOS, hexavalent chromium and trivalent chromium. Performance depends on feed water quality, operating conditions and timely filter replacement.
