Commercial fluoride water treatment

High capacity fluoride filtration from 15 to 390 GPM

The Crystal Quest commercial fluoride removal system is designed for facilities that want greater control over fluoride in municipal or source water. Choose the service flow, media, connection size, and control configuration that fit the water analysis and operating demand.

Plan from tested water. Fluoride cannot be identified by taste, odor, or appearance. Media selection and system sizing should begin with a current laboratory analysis.

Benefits for commercial fluoride treatment

Targeted adsorption media

The available media use adsorption and chemical interaction rather than conventional ion exchange to address fluoride in water.

Commercial flow capacity

Nine system sizes cover published continuous service flows from 15 to 390 GPM, with peak flow ratings from 22 to 450 GPM.

Built for demanding properties

Composite fiberglass tanks, internal distribution components, and model matched controls support commercial, institutional, industrial, and large property applications.

Flexible control choices

Automatic controls manage backwashing. Models from 15 to 75 GPM are also offered with manual upflow or manual downflow controls.

Choose the media for the water source

Aluminum Oxide

A synthetic crystalline aluminum oxide media designed with an affinity for fluoride, lead, and arsenic. Its fluoride performance is sensitive to flow rate and pH.

Calcium GAC

Black granular bone char produced from calcined cattle bone. Crystal Quest identifies it for inorganic fluoride, including fluoridated municipal water. It is an animal derived treatment material.

Mixed

A selectable blended media configuration. Crystal Quest notes that a blend may be recommended when fluoride is organic or comes from a natural source such as well water.

Important sizing distinction: the Aluminum Oxide data sheet lists suggested media operating conditions of 1 to 2 GPM per cubic foot and notes that best fluoride capacity is obtained around pH 5.5. These media conditions are not the same as the complete system service flow rating.

Best for

  • Commercial properties using fluoridated municipal water
  • Schools, campuses, offices, and institutional facilities
  • Restaurants, food service operations, and beverage facilities
  • Apartment and multifamily properties
  • Industrial and manufacturing applications
  • Large properties seeking centralized fluoride treatment
  • Well water projects where testing supports the selected media
  • Facilities planned around laboratory results and commercial flow demand

Choose the correct flow and control type

Use continuous service flow as the primary sizing value. Peak flow is the published short duration maximum and should not replace the service flow rating.

Automatic control

Automatic models use an electric control valve to manage backwash cycles. The valve and connection supplied depend on the selected flow configuration.

Manual downflow with backwash

Available for 15 to 75 GPM models. The operator initiates and manages the backwash process.

Manual upflow

Available for 15 to 75 GPM models. This configuration does not require electricity and does not use an automatic backwash cycle.

Control head references

The product specification table and the general installation guide do not match in every size. The selectable product configurations above remain the purchase reference. The manual chart is provided separately so installers can see its published tank sizing information.

Tank volume Head in installation guide Line size Drain size
3 ft³ 2510 1 inch 0.5 inch
4 ft³ 2850 1.5 inches 1.25 inches
7 ft³ 2850 1.5 inches 1.25 inches
10 ft³ 2850 1.5 inches 1.25 inches
15 ft³ 2900 2 inches 1 inch
20 ft³ 3900 3 inches 2 inches
30 ft³ 3900 3 inches 2 inches
40 ft³ 3900 3 inches 2 inches

The general guide ends at 40 ft³. Model specific components and installation requirements for the 60 ft³, 390 GPM configuration should be taken from the equipment documentation supplied with that system.

Installation planning

Professional installation required

Installation must account for the selected connection size, operating pressure, drain capacity, electrical supply for automatic models, equipment clearance, and safe access for future service.

Plan around backwash demand

Automatic and manual downflow models require drainage that can accept the published backwash rate. Manual upflow models do not use an automatic backwash cycle.

Use a current laboratory water analysis, the required continuous flow, source water conditions, pH, available pressure, and installation clearance when planning the system. Peak flow is not the continuous service rating.

Manuals and technical documents

Frequently asked questions

Which media should I choose?

Begin with a laboratory water analysis that identifies the fluoride level, source, pH, and other relevant water conditions. Calcium GAC is identified for inorganic fluoride such as municipal fluoridation. Aluminum Oxide has flow and pH dependent performance. A Mixed configuration may be considered for different source water conditions.

Does Calcium GAC contain animal material?

Yes. The Calcium GAC data sheet identifies the media as bone char produced by calcining cattle bones.

Does every flow rate offer automatic and manual controls?

No. Models from 15 to 75 GPM offer automatic, manual upflow, and manual downflow with backwash options. The 185 GPM model is automatic with a 2 inch or 3 inch connection. The 200, 245, and 390 GPM models are automatic.

How should the system be sized?

Use the required continuous service flow rather than peak flow. Also account for the water analysis, media choice, pressure, connection size, backwash drainage, and installation clearance.

Is professional installation required?

Yes. A qualified installer should plan the plumbing, drain, pressure, electrical supply where applicable, equipment clearance, startup, and service access for the selected configuration.
